We’ve simplified our philosophy into the 5 Line Method, a clear, actionable system. All 5 Lines overlap, but each has a specific focus so you always know what to work on next to unlock the wave’s energy. Whether you’re a beginner looking to catch your first wave or an advanced surfer seeking to refine your style, SurfLab gives you the tools to surf with confidence and flow.
Line 1
Line 1 is about learning in safety. You’re riding broken waves toward the beach — not to perform, but to feel.Foam reduces risk, slows the wave down, and gives you repetition. This line builds balance, direction, and calm.If Line 1 feels easy or boring, that means your nervous system is learning.
Line 2
Line 2 is the first major shift. Instead of going straight, you’re now travelling across the wave. Angle creates time. Lift replaces push. This is where many surfers feel speed — and also where things stop working if the board or focus is wrong.
Line 3
Line 3 is where speed becomes a relationship, not a reaction. You’re no longer racing — you’re learning to follow curves. The wave starts paying you back when your timing improves. Force gets punished here. Shape and patience get rewarded.
Line 4
Line 4 is about choosing risk on purpose. You already have speed — now you decide how to use it. Horizontal turns teach you how to go back into energy instead of away from it. Line choice matters more than effort here.
Line 5
Line 5 is not about trying harder. It’s about doing less, earlier, and with better timing. Vertical turns only work when the wave is allowed to finish the job. Mistakes become data. Creativity comes from trust.
